If your child is over 6 years old then they can actively be involved in the decorating process.

Window Treatments

Window treatments can be simple or complex.  Here are a few ideas:  Make a cornice board to fit the window and cover it with padding and material that matches your décor.  You can use a black and white checked fabric make curtains and valances.  Another idea, it to create flags from black and white checkered fabric and use them around the room and as a topper for the windows.

Accessories

To make the Race Car room complete is to add accents or finishing touches.  One can add decorative knobs to pieces of furniture, use fun car accessories e.g.: light switch covers, tumbler, lotion pump, waste basket etc, use race car art work, or use chalkboard paint and trim it out with a matching race car border, find a car print rug or car themed floor rugs.

To create a reading area within the room just use a window treatment or basket hanger in the corner of the room.  Drape black and white checkered fabric or coordinated fabric to create a special place.  Put books on small shelves or in baskets so they are accessible for a child.  Use racing car big pillows or coordinating colored beanbags to make it comfortable for your child to read.
